Why Smart?
Smart research technology
Our projectiles are developed to withstand and exceed the expectations of the most demanding long range shooter. In our research and development process we are using probably smartest and most modern scientific approach. Firstly, we take into an account twist rate and typical initial velocity according to bullet’s weight for given caliber. Then, utilizing our own, improved over decades, exterior aeroballistic software we are calculating static, gyroscopic and dynamic stability for initial and continuous short and long range velocities for any practical range including supersonic, transonic and subsonic velocity regions, including six degree of freedom (6DOF) trajectory calculation with complete nutational and precessional spiral motions. Calculating stability includes, but not limited to, calculation of drag force, spin damping moment, lift and normal forces, overturning moment, magnus force and moment, pitch damping force and moment. When development of new shaped bullet with minimal drag and near ideal gyroscopic (Sg>1.4) and dynamic (Sd≈1) stabilities is completed successfully, we make a field tests at our ballistic laboratory with our own designed ballistic test results reporting system, using several super slow-mo cameras and radars to accept all the ballistic properties of given projectile. If projectile is a game bullet, than additional tests are performed to accept bullet’s terminal performance.
We are not using obsolete empirical arithmetic formulas from 20th century, like Greenhill, Miller etc., because they show very approximate values that more or less correspond to traditional lead-cored bullets only. Our technology is incomparably smarter.
Smart manufacturing technology
After all tests are done, detailed drawings are prepared for CNC turning machines. Every projectile is carefully measured at machining stage and at quality control stage to approve strict tolerances, which are limited to several μm only. Material is specified on R&D stage and could be, but not limited to, pure copper, Smart Bullet bronze gr.2 and gr.3, aluminum alloys AISI6082 and AISI7075, engineering plastics and others.
Finally, we are proud, that our bullets are produced partially utilizing green energy sources, are environmentally friendly and are lead free.
Smart ballistics
Every our projectile has it’s own ballistic card. Indicated values are given in metric (and imperial in brackets) dimensions. Values are: bullet’s caliber (diameter) in mm (inches), bullet’s weight in grams (grains), bullet’s length in mm (inches), minimum cartridge overal length (COL) in mm (inches), sectional density (SD) in g/mm 2 (lb/in 2 ), ballistic coefficient (BC) G1, G7 or G8 in lb/in2, recommended minimum barrel’s twist rate in inches per revolution, recommended minimum initial velocity in m/s (f/s), recommended shooting range in m (y), recommended calibers or cases. Ballistic coefficient is given as an averaged value suitable for most practical shooting distances within bullet’s safe supersonic (>390 m/s) regime. Note, that it is not empirical “advertised value” like some manufacturers with smooth packing boxes does (to understand how this works, simply compare the average ballistic coefficient to the initial ballistic coefficient. For those of our customers who need additional external ballistic data for extreme long range shooting accurate drag-function is available on request with supersonic, transonic and subsonic drag data included.
Minimum cartridge overal length (COL) is indicated as “case length +”. Using this value in combination with bullet’s length will help advanced reloader to understand not only if given combination of projectile and case will fit hit action and magazine, but also to undersand case’s remaining volume for shooting powder. For those of our customers who need additional internal ballistic data, Smart Bullet’s database for QuickLoad software is available on request.
Using all these values smart shooter can accurately simulate internal and external ballistics of Smart Bullet projectiles utilizing at least any commercially available ballistic software.
Any more smart?
Yes! If you can’t find projectile that you need – feel free to ask us about it.
We can develop eventually any projectile for any caliber, irrelevant it's ancient, rare, obsolete or wildcat.
